Online Video Marketing

  • Forrester Research found out that 60% of all web traffic comes from online videos and 70% of the Top 50 Internet Retailers display videos on their websites. Why? Because:
  • A video in search index is 53 times more likely to appear on the first page search results!
  • The video may spread virally online driving traffic to your website naturally
  • Video on your website, blog and social page helps your online marketing campaigns
  • Recent study by comScore: 85.6% of internet users in the US watched online videos
  • Wikipedia last year launched Add Media, a function that allows its editors to drag and drop portions of videos into its articles. Across the internet, website managers are scrambling to make video content available for one reason – people love it. Instead of investing in traditional advertising to promote the Ford Fiesta, Ford created The Ford Fiesta Movement, giving 100 individuals Ford Fiestas and having them promote the car on social media. The preliminary results for this campaign are impressive. After six months, it had generated 4.3 million YouTube views. And, most importantly, attracted 50,000 interested customers, 97 percent of whom did not currently own a Ford.
  • Online Publishers Association (OPA) report revealed the astonishing facts that out of 80% visitors who viewed the online video advertisement around 46% took some action. According to same report, around 22% viewers visited the related website, 26% searched for more information, 15% visited the company and 12% purchased that specific product.
  • Americans are watching online video alongside television, 35% more than last year, according to Neilson.
  • In December 2009, viewing of online video was 10.3% more than the year previously. Video is not just something people are passively watching. It’s something people are sharing with each other.
  • Yahoo is even embedding video in its SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages), Google has been doing it for over a year with ‘universal search’ results often showing video thumbnails on the first page of the SERPs, and recently Gmail has a feature that allows users to view YouTube videos in their email messages.

What is Social Commerce?

AMERINDE REPORT | SOURCE: ACI WHITE PAPER

Social commerce is a newly-made-popular term and it is a part of E-commerce that involves using social media and online media that supports social interaction and user contributions that assists in making a decision for online buying and selling of products, services and other E-commerce transactions which result in generation of revenue or sale.

Social commerce is a subset of electronic commerce (eCommerce) that involves using social media and other online interactive media to engage and influence in online buying and selling of products and services. It is the use of social network(s) in the context of e-commerce transactions. Some familiar technology tools categorised as Social Applications (SApps), Social Advertising (SA), Social Media Optimization (SMO), Customer Experience Management (CEM) that you may have seen in the front face of the website are Wish lists, User ratings, Reviews, Like buttons, Follow buttons, User Recommendations, Referrals,  Online Forums, Online Communities, Online Groups,  and so on. The concept of social commerce is defined as user-generated advertising content on social or e-commerce sites which helps shoppers influence and make an informed decision to buy. If 10 or 20 of your friends like something, wish to buy or have bought it, most likely, you are going to trust that product or service. This universe together is Social Commerce.

The technology today has widely extended the meaning and functionality of the area of social commerce and has expanded it to include the range of social media tools and content used in the context of e-commerce in various industry segments. Some useful examples of social commerce include customer ratings and reviews, user recommendations and referrals, social shopping tools, sharing the act of shopping online, forums and communities, social media optimization, social applications and social advertising. Some academic thinkers have sought to distinguish "social commerce" from "social shopping", referring to social commerce as collaborative networks of online vendors, and social shopping as collaborative activity of online shoppers. It is a good thought, especially, when we all know social commerce has arrived!

Facebook case | Message for Employers

ALG REPORT | FEB 11, 2011 | SOURCE: NLRB OFFICE OF PUBLIC AFFAIRS

A settlement has been reached in a case involving the discharge of a Connecticut ambulance service employee for posting negative comments about a supervisor on her Facebook page.

The NLRB’s Hartford regional office issued a complaint against a Connecticut company on October 27, 2010, alleging that the discharge violated federal labor law because the employee was engaged in protected activity when she posted the comments about her supervisor, and responded to further comments from her co-workers. Under the National Labor Relations Act, employees may discuss the terms and conditions of their employment with co-workers and others.

The NLRB complaint also alleged that the company maintained overly-broad rules in its employee handbook regarding blogging, Internet posting, and communications between employees, and that it had illegally denied union representation to the employee during an investigatory interview shortly before the employee posted the negative comments on her Facebook page.

Under the terms of the settlement the company agreed to revise its overly-broad rules to ensure that they do not improperly restrict employees from discussing their wages, hours and working conditions with co-workers and others while not at work, and that they would not discipline or discharge employees for engaging in such discussions.

The company also promised that employee requests for union representation will not be denied in the future and that employees will not be threatened with discipline for requesting union representation. The allegations involving the employee’s discharge were resolved through a separate, private agreement between the employee and the company.

The National Labor Relations Board is an independent federal agency vested with the authority to safeguard employees’ rights to organize and to determine whether to have a union as their collective bargaining representative, and to prevent and remedy unfair labor practices committed by private sector employers and unions.
